A web developer who has built and run businesses

I'm John Andersen. I build websites and applications for smaller businesses in Thailand. My career began in 1997 and has taken me from internet support and PHP at TV 2 to running a design studio, publishing guides, and developing booking platforms. You work directly with me, whether you need a new website or help with an existing system.

Experience behind the work

A trip to Thailand became years of building businesses

In 2001, I went to Thailand with a laptop and a plan to build websites to keep travelling. On Koh Samui, I met Paisit Kapilakan, known as Jod, and we started IT Graphix. Our web and graphic design studio grew to serve real estate agencies, diving schools, and hotels. We later expanded into dining and lifestyle guides through United Publishing.

My days combined programming and sales. I worked mainly with expat clients, while Jod handled sales to Thai clients. Along the way, our publishing business sold advertising in CNN Traveller and Bangkok Airways' Fah Thai under an agreement with Ink. I got to know the work of hotel managers, chefs, and business owners from many countries.

I later focused on the villa rental business with Marc Ribail, developing Thailand-villas.com and klik.villas until the businesses were sold in 2022. Today, Webstudiet is a one-person company: you talk to the person doing the work. Read the story behind my work.

Services

What do you need to build or improve?

I help local service companies, villa and tour operators, expat-owned businesses, and international projects with a Thailand connection. The work can be a small fix, a new feature, or a complete website.

  • A new website or application. Company websites, booking features, and custom tools for daily work. I work with WordPress, PHP, Laravel, and Astro, choosing the technology to fit the task.
  • Help with an existing system. Fixing faults, adding features, and maintaining the website you already run. That might be a broken form, an awkward content editor, or a PHP application that needs updating.
  • Systems that work together. APIs and integrations that move enquiries, bookings, and other information between your website and the tools your business uses.
  • Speed and technical SEO. Investigating slow pages and fixing technical problems that affect search engines. You can make a first check with my URL Analyzer.

Quality content and good technical foundation are both critical โ€” you need both to succeed.
